So very [img]smileys/smiley5.gif[/img]why my float/sensor for the Wiper Fluid reservor's will not tell my idot dash light to go off. Anyone have this problem ?? Front Reservordoesn'tlook easy to remove, and assume rear is behind rear hatch panel ?? Filled up washer fluid in summer, then in a couple days, light finally went out. Light back on again, & filled up weeks ago, yet will not sense?


Went with a de-icer type of fluid last winter, and ever since seams to be an issue once "warms" up the senser is ok. Once it gets cooler, < 40°F then does not sense fluid. Probably not issue, yet just past 12 mo. obs.


Just wonder if anyone with 98 or ± year has had same issue??

Ended up buying a new water bottle sensor $35, replaced, and it didn''t fix issue. Ref. the Ford Serv. Manual for year (off ebay), and looks like would need to check voltage (Multimeter) in run. So guess I should have invested in a voltage meter upfront, and not the sensor. Oh well.....


Just unplugged the sensor at the base of res., and elect. tape over to keep grit out. At least lights off....

I know the "sensor" in my 88 MGM is just 2 contacts that conduct through the fluid. if there''s no current, the idiot light comes on. Seems to be a little different in the later models (go figure). It may be the same, but made in a module instead of into the tank. If that''s the case, there may be some gunk clogging the holes to the sensor. If the fluid can''t get to the sensor, the sensor will think there''s no fluid in the tank.

That''s why they call them dummy lights. I mean come on, who doesn''t know when they''re out of washer fluid? I want to say "just unplug it and forget it", but sometimes you just have the need to know why. LOL!

Cleaned the bottle when I put new sensor in, so must not be getting current. For now, it''s just unplugged to a $30+ idiot end, so guess who''s the idiot for buying a sensor and not a meter!
