Good morning all, I'm new to this forum and I'm glad I found it.



My question is, I have a 1996 villager and I did a puter check on it and it said the knock sensor was fried.

Now......the problem is I cannot locate it....I looked on the cylinder
block on both sides by the manifold, and looked on top near the
injectors and found nothing.

It is behind the upper and lower mainfold that you have to remove to get sensor

Relocating the knock sensor.
 

If your engine is anything like a 3.0 liter V6 from a 97 Villager, the knock sensor would be located under the lower manifold. From 93 - 01, the knock sensors were located there. It's a real pain to get to, generally a 10 hour job, because you have to remove the upper & lower manifold, removing the fuel injection, drain the radiator to remove the coolant crossover tube, etc... Since I already had new coolant in the system, I didn't want to do this type of repair to replace my knock sensor. So instead, I left the sensor where it's at...and mounted a new sensor on top of the upper intake manifold under the throttle cable support bracket. The Haynes manual has a pinout diagram to locate where to cut and splice the new sensor into. The old sensor is wire is cut near the subharness connector. On the 97, the subharness is located near the upper manifold, and next to the power steering pump. Of the 3 subharnesses located in that area, it is the closest to the upper manifold....Generally, the knock sensor uses a WHITE wire in the subharness. You can confirm the wire with a multimeter...and back tracing to the ECM - ECCS control module. Autozone has a diagram for the schematic and pinouts posted. A knock sensor and harness would cost around $10 each on Amazon... My knock sensor codes on the OBDII haven't come up since this relocation. Good luck.

Check from underneath the car....left from the exhaust manifold on the rear bank of cylinders. for 99-00, it clips in right into the block, or for 01-02 model years.
but just loocate the oil drain plug, and go up on the engine until you find a wire that just plugs into the block of the engine. So it appears that you'll have easy access to the knock sensor from below the car. Seems like an easy swap out... Go to Autozone or Pepboys...and do a search on knock sensor to give you an idea of what it looks like. They come with a long harness built-in with the sensor attached. Go under your car and try to locate this sensor.
