Hey all, have a 1998 Villager where I picked up a Yakima rack with correct Control Tower w/ Land Pad #1's as specified by Yakima. I need to take the end caps off the existing factory rack "guide" to insert the new landing pads (2 bolt stud) vs. the factory 1.

Anyone happen to have taken the end caps off to do this?? Seams straight forward, yet have not studied it alot. Just picked up, and looked end caps over not seeing a set screw in back anyway. I'll look up front and study in daylight. Manual says nothing regarding the end capremoval, so thought I MIGHT get lucky here to ensure I don't break something stupid. https://www.mercuryforum.com/smileys/smiley5.gif

For that matter, I want to pull off the tie down loops from a junked one. Yard says their mine, if I can get the end cap off. He did same, just skimmed and wasn't bothered by a couple doller item. Hey, ya can never have enough tie down loops !!

Patrick, Greatly appreciate info. Happen to be late, dark, and cool last night so really didn't think HARD. After looking, ALL a person needs to do is take the LAST screw out of the RAIL ends. The end cap has excess hole under guide and simply slides in under rail, poof its off!!

Have the whole Yakima rack on, and staggered the factory cross bar to keep it on as well. As they say, all loaded up, so now back to e-bay to try to find a couple bike mounts in the coming weeks.

Take care.

OH just a side note to Villager owners, BEST FORUM avail. for Veh. I searched some litterly 40+ for just general villager info. This is great!! I'll be adding some other more mech. related topics VERY soon. If ya gotta have a VAN , guess it's the only way to go !! 98 GS,just 85K mi., owned over 3 years, EASY access to V6, I perform ALL own work. Paid $10,650 w/ 42.5K mi and new tires in 02. Runs +/- 22 mpg hwy.,being better than only 18-19 when I bought.

Hint, run platnium plugs !! and change out fuel filter every 15K, and pump tires max (they can take it). Even Big +++, HEY its a NISSAN. (oh, had to around).
