View Full Version : I own two Villagers. Douglas 10-15-2004, 02:11 PM Hi ya all, I'm new here also and I'm glad I found this site so I can learn more about my villagers and to meet new friends, thanks. Douglas 10-15-2004, 02:17 PM I have a 96 villager with a fried knock sensor and I looked on the block everywhere, and on top near the injectors but still no find. Anyone know where this buggert is located, thankssmileys/smiley4.gif MercAdvisor 10-15-2004, 10:26 PM Unless that knock sensor is causing you problems do not replace it... It is located under the intake manifold. I work at a linc merc dealer and we have replaced a few of those its a labor entensive job and not really needed unless you have a problem.... And Welcome to the forum Douglas 10-15-2004, 11:06 PM Thank you MercAdvisor, I hooked a puter up to it because the engine light kept coming on. when I erased the code it came on again after I started the engine. It said the sensor was maufuctioning so I guess I'll have to pick a weekend and see what I can do. $169.00 for a knock sensor WOW!!!!!!!!! that costs alot, thanks again. MercAdvisor 10-15-2004, 11:08 PM check and see if you can buy that sensor froma nissan dealer if you can get them to sell it to you it will proably be cheaper.... same engine and trans Douglas 10-16-2004, 10:44 AM I wish I had a nissan dealer near my place but I don't, but a Mercury dealer is about 20 minutes away. I checked eBay but found them for saabs. Today I have to replace two motor mounts on the lower frame front and back, motor kicks up.....have a good daysmileys/smiley1.gif Douglas 10-21-2004, 12:15 PM MercAdvisor?.....My wife has a "95" also and when she hits the key it has a knocking sound in the warming up stage, and when it warms up it goes away. Could this be a lifter going bad, or does it need to be tighten? thanks for all the help on this site. MercAdvisor 10-21-2004, 01:23 PM Unfortunatly smileys/smiley7.gifthere were some years where as the engines got older the lower end would begin making some noise let me check into this a little more and i will find out as much as i can for you... Lenny 10-21-2004, 03:57 PM MercAdvisor?.....My wife has a "95" also and when she hits the key it has a knocking sound in the warming up stage, and when it warms up it goes away. Could this be a lifter going bad, or does it need to be tighten? thanks for all the help on this site. Sounds like oil starvation in top of head(under valve cover),might just be gunked oil passages. My 95 E-350(460 motor) did the same thing until I cleaned the top of the heads. Lenny.smileys/smiley16.gif Douglas 10-21-2004, 04:02 PM WOW! if thats all, then I'll get a gaskit and see what I can do, you been a blessing in many ways! Thanks again. Douglas 10-22-2004, 07:27 AM TESTING........ uploads/Douglas/86137_KnockSensor.gif Douglas 10-23-2004, 07:40 PM A guy has my villager in his garage with the intake manifold off. We now located the knock sensor but we found out one of the heater pipes (metel) had a leak and I'm not paying $300.00 for a new one. I went to a junk yard and found one for a steal for only $10.00 he he this made my day! Douglas 11-09-2004, 12:19 PM My wife has a "95" villager and I can't locate the onboard puter hookup, anyone know where it might be? My "96" is located next to the fuse box, because of the switchover, but the "95" is somewhere else. MercAdvisor 11-09-2004, 01:18 PM I believe that on a 95 the diag port may be located underhood i will check with one of the technicans and find out for you... Douglas 11-12-2004, 09:26 PM I been online looking so this is what I came up with. A few sights say it's located on the transaxle on the LH side behind coolant reservoir. The connecters I only found were on the trans but didn't make any since at all. I do have some good news thou......I replaced a 02 sensor on the "95" villager and the knocking went away, maybe a bad mixture of gas and air out of balance cause a hot spot or something. I bought a OBD ll scanner awhile back and I think it's the best tool I ever had so far in finding trouble cods and bad sensors. I ordered a sm exaust section with a flex in it for my wifes van because she hit something and trashed it. Midas said it would cost $400.00 for one but I ordered one at Murrays for $175,00. MercAdvisor 11-13-2004, 01:42 AM Unfortunatly everything for those vans are extremely expensive.. Anytime you can find the parts aftermarket and do the work yourselfi would definatly recommend it... You said Murrays do you live in michigan? Douglas 11-13-2004, 05:39 AM Yes I live in Michigan. I have Murrays, Auto vantage, Auto zone and Stewerts near by, not to mention the dealerships up the street. You know the dealerships will always take a big bite out of you. |
