Default head light issues

I have an 04 GM. and am having issues with my headlights. Most times when I turn on my lights the headlights do not come on. The running lights turn on and the back lights are on. After a minute or so I hear a click and the lights turn on. They stay on for a few seconds to sometimes a few minutes. I hear the click again and they turn off. If I pull the high beam control back towards me the light stays on, but I have to hold it to keep them on. If I push the high beam control forward (for regular high beams) I get the same results as the regular lights. Meaning they come on, then click, they turn back off. Not sure why. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome.

Might try a replacement headlight switch.

Or try a local salvage yard for part.

I'll take a look at it. But I really dont believe its the switch. Because all the other lights work just fine. It only occurs when I turn on the headlights. And its just the headlights and not the back lights or any other lights. I was told that it may be a relay switch. Thanks for your reply, it does give me another avenue to pursue!

This is a very common problem with your LCM and it's relay (the click you hear). A replacement LCM is over $600, but there are vendors on eBay that will rebuild the unit for $100.

If you can solder, I'll send you a link on how to replace the LCM relays yourself.

Let us know how you make out, Bill

Thanks Billccm, it was frustrating not knowing the problem, but I think you hit it right on the head. I'll go price a few, may even go to my local u-pull-it and get a used one from them.
