95 Hesitating

Hello, I'm new here, but I have a 95 cougar xr7 with the V8. I have hesitation while accelerating. Check engine light is on, and I had it scanned. One was a P0300 and the other was a P1407. I plan to do this myself. What and where would be a good place to start. I have no history with this car. It was purchased. Any ideas or a place to start would be great.
