Need help with 95 xr7 wiring
#1
Two weeks ago I got a call from a (non-motorhead) friend
asking me to go out to his walnut orchard (70 miles away) a get his 4.6 V8 ’95 Cougar
and drive it home as he is selling the orchard and the car. The car had been sitting for 2
years.
Two weeks, 3 </span>round
trips, and </span>two Pick-n-Pull trips later
(today) I got it running. </span>But what a
mess. Squirrels had taken up residency in the engine bay. (Well, it <b style=""><i style="">is[/i][/b]
in a walnut orchard!) It was nothing but a huge nest. </span>After clearing away the worst of the nest (no
power or water out there now) I was amazed to find the damage those vandals had
perpetrated. Dozens of wires, both fuel lines, vacuum lines, all 8 ignition
wires, </span>etc. etc. They seemed to be
particularly fond of chewing the wires completely through right at the
connector(s) (read, no wire left to splice).
My method was to get the same wires, connectors, etc. at
Pick-n-Pull and remove/replace/splice, whatever. That worked. But here is my
problem. I found that Ford, in their infinite wisdom, chose to run two sets of
wires with the same color code from/to the big round engine harness connector
located up on the far left side of the firewall. I just took my best shot but
if Murphy has anything to say at least one set ain’t right.
So if someone has the shop manual I sure would appreciate a
little help here. (Just sooz you know, I am OBD1 savy, but have no specific
experience with this vintage Cougar)
Two light blue wires run to pins 8 and 39.
Two yellow/green wires run to pins 2 and 40.
When I test drove it a mile or two it seem to run OK with
only the ‘low coolant’ light on but I sure would like two know what these wires
are for before I drive it 70 miles on the freeway. Thanks
