2004 - Blend Door Actuator only turns in heat direction
I have a 2004 Grand marquis and not sure if I have a blend door issue, temp switch issue or if everything is working. I'm a new owner and the car wasn't getting heat, so I dug in and discovered that the prior owner mickey moused the blend door arm manually and moved it towards the "cold" position. The blend door arm was no longer sitting on metal door arm. I replaced the actuator and the temp switch and now I'm questioning everything - lol.
Question) Does the temp dial control BOTH directions of the blend door arm? When I move the temp dial/switch towards heat the blend door actuator moves the arm to the heat position. When I turn the temp dial/switch towards cold the blend door stays in the heat position. Is this working as designed?
Question) What causes the blend door to move to the A/C or Cold position? Apparently there is more to this than turning the temp to cold. If the door isn't moving to the cold position is this a sign of an bad a/c?
Thanks
John
