Default Engine light on and off

Hello
I have a 1990 Sable and while driving to work today my engine light went on and off many times. When the light was on I would lose some power and once the light went off I would regain full power. Does anybody know why this would happen and how I can repair it?

Thanks for reading my post!

I would go to autozone and let them check your car they test it for free....

definitely get the code read (it should keep it in memory unless you pull the battery off for a few). That will help greatly in diagnosing the problem. without the code, it's really a shot in the dark to find the issue.

your loss in power is the engine or dimming lights and such, too?

On an old car I had, a flashing check engine light meant no oil pressure. It happened a lot at stop lights and would stop when I took off. The pump needed higher RPMs to get the oil moving through the clogged pick-up which I eventually cleaned out.

First thing's first: Check your owner's manual to see what a flashing check engine light could mean. Get to autozone as soon as you can to see what they say and in the meantime before you drive it again, check all the fluid levels for saftey's sake.
