Default idle air control vavle

I have a 2004 mercury mountaineer and trying to see if theirs a iac vavle i need to replace. The book says that for this model i do not need to replace it. My check engine light is on and it pulls code 506 which is the iac. Any suggestions on should i replace it and also where is it located. Thanks for your help.

try cleaning it and the throttle body. It may just be clogged.

I'm trying to locate where the idle air control valve or motor is on my 2004v6 mercury mountaineer. I'm not a mechanic so you have to give me detail by detail on where i can find it. Thanks.

it should be on the throttle body (the part that the air filter intake mounts to that the cable from the accelerator is connected to with the big flapper inside that allows more air into the engine when you "hit the gas"). There should be a hole before and after the flapper that the IAC connects to and controls airflow through. Happy hunting.

Default iac

I think i may have found the problem with my iac on my 2004 mercury mountaineer. I took the cover off from the air filter and throttle and sprayed throttle and air intake cleaner in the hole where the big flap(that opens and close)at. It seems to be running fine but i was wondering if i need to take any parts off to farther clean it more.

I didn't on my MGM. I just kept spraying, starting, clearing, spraying until the black gunk was gone. Be sure not to spray too much before starting the engine and clearing it out or you may detonate something unpleasant.

I don't see it in that picture (it could be on the back side of the throttle body).

check the image out over at rock auto

and see if you can find something that looks the same as that. it should be connected to the same part as the throttle and cruise control cables.
