Default Random mistarts

First off this is the first post here, I have a 94 sable wagon with a 3.8 and what it is doing is every once in a while it just cranks over and wont fire, I was told that it could be the fuel relay, so I get the number off the one I was told to replace , a 5 blade in front of the battery, so I find one , and just about ready to take off to go buy it. I figure I will crank it over to make sure.....and it fired up without the relay in place so basicly which relay is for the fuel pump and does it sound like I am on the right track ???

personally I would do a top end tune up if it hasn't already been done... fuel filter, plugs, wires, etc. check all wiring to make sure the harnesses are good and tight... check for corrosion on connectors and such. To check the fuel pump, just turn the key on and listen for a faint hum from the area of the gas tank (you may need someone else to turn the key while you listen to the tank with the gas cap off... mind sparks and no smoking while doing this check). Also, the car is old enough, check the battery to make sure it's not dropping a cell or two. that could keep it from firing from time to time as well. check the connector to the alternator to make sure it's connected good and the wires aren't having any issues.

since it's a ford, if you think you're going to break the connector tabs on any wire harness due to how tight it is, then don't worry about it. The tabs may be brittle too so if you're worried about breaking them, don't pull that one apart.

Not sure about the relay myself. Never had any issues with relays. Maybe someone else that has more experience with sables can help too.
