I needed to reset the computer system due to check engine light. I corrected the problem, disconnected the negative wire on my battery yesterday. How long before the system resets?

Thanks!

Leave it off for 15 minutes. I have a 2000 crown vic with the 4.6 and it has worked for me. Most important though is you need to find out what is happening to make the light come on. You can go to an Autozone and think they will check it for free. I had my inspector print out the code and I did a google search and found out what mine is.

Right now mine is coming on due to a output speed sensor on the back of the transmission.

If you are trying to get it inspected there is a "special driving technique" that you can do. It states driving the car for 10 minutes at 30 mph, stop turn the motor off let it cool down, crank it back up and drive 55 mph for 10 minutes, stop turn the motor off and let it cool down. This also helps wipe out the memory of your driving habits that are in the computer. Hope this helps and it does work.
