Default 1992 trans problem

I have a 1992 that has just over 100,000 miles on it,and on the way home the trans started slipping in overdrive. But when i stop and start again it does shift until it gets into high gear.I checked the fluid and the level was good and the color was good as well. The build day on the car is 01/02,so im not sure what trans is in it.Could it be a solenoid or a converter???Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Ford used the AOD transmission until 2/18/92 After that it was the AOD-E. Soudns like you probably have the AOD transmission in your car which is fully mechanical.. The very first thing to check is the TV-Cable grommet.. The TV cable connects to the throttle body right where the throttle cable connects.. It is used in setting pressure in the transmissions and is very cruicial to shifting.. THe grommet was made of plastic and very prone to disintigrating.. When this happens it doesn;t take long for the transmission to burn up due to low pressure.. Inspect this and make sure the cable is tightly connected in there..
If it's gone upgrade to the brass bushing available from Ford..

A Fluid and filter change still may not be a bad idea either way, this would allow you to get an idea of the condition of your transmission pending on how much junk is in the pan.. Sadly, these particular transmissions were on the weak end of things and there is a very good chance that the overdrive band may just be wearing out... If you do opt to replace your trans with new or rebuilt, get the upgraded brass TV cable grommet reguardless.. More good transmissions have been destroyed by the cheap plastic grommet failing...

Proud new owner of 92 MGM. I am having subtle issues with what I think is either the transmission or torque converter. When first starting out it feels like a little shutter, but goes away. And on light throttle going up hills (30-50 MPH)it feels like same thing. Maybe it's the overdrive.

Any suggestions?

How do find out which transmission I have?

Sorry for NOOB questions.

that sounds like the torque converter. Had the same issue with the trans in the 93 vic I have. Check your fluid levels though. Low trans fluid can cause that too.

Thought this would be useful.

I found it to see if the problems with my car were something I could fix or that I'd have to let the shop do.
