1993 4.6 whirring noise

maxfax3,
The noise problem seemed to fix by itself. You might correct that it was the low hydralic pressure at the timing tensioner. I only hope no damaged occurred inside the engine. I plan to flush the engine prior to the next oil change. I'll keep you in touch. Thanks for all your help! Joe..

Self fixing might be good.. Keep an ear on it, maybe one of those buggers was just sticking.. I would imagine all the mroe you ran the car it didn;t do anything more than maybe put some minute metal pieces in the oil.. (If that)... The filter should take care of those though... Let us know how you make out!

The Panther platform cars (Grand Marquis/Crown Vic/Town Car) were extremelt well built cars.. Decent fuel milage for the size too... Sadly they are destined to be scrached from production... Allegedly because sales are too low.. Of course they never really marketed these cars, and most auto publications ragging on them because of their dinosauresq design didn't help... Personally I don;t care if it is a 20 year old design, IT WORKED!!! I think if they would have gotten the publics attention on these cars they woudl have been a much stronger seller..
I personally thing the real reason that they didn't market them that much is because they used the same driveline in the trucks and at the time they sure didn't want to slow truck production due to a lack of engines and transmissions..
