Question 1995 Grand Marquis Recall

I purchased a 1995 Grand Marquis a year ago, and the owner informed me of the recall that was for the cruise control switch. I brought the card to a Ford dealer, and was told that the fix couldn't be done because of a modified master cylinder. The "modification" in question is a butt connector. That modification was done by a previous owner, so I am unaware of the function of such a modification.

Regardless, since a Ford dealer refuses to fix this recall, what are my options? I'm a student and being forced to purchase a new vehicle because of this failure would be unfortunate for my finances.

Try a different Ford Dealer. They just don't want to fix your over-20-year-old car.
Or, they may not have the wiring on hand, or a mechanic that is familiar with the necessary repair.
You might check on U-Tube to see if someone did this "fix" as a private owner.
In any case, the "fix" has nothing at all to do with the brake master cylinder.
I bought my '95 Grand Marquis in 2005, with 51,000 miles on the clock.
The "fix" was done at a Phoenix, AZ Ford dealer, and the car now has 156,000 miles on it.
Note that the "fix" is to prevent the car from catching fire, even when the ignition is "off".
ALL of the cars were not affected. Most were OK, but there were enough failures to warrant the re-call.
If your car has over 50,000 miles on it without catching fire, chances are pretty good that you're good to go.
To be absolutely careful, do not park your car within 50 feet of your house or apartment building, or in your own garage.
If you're really worried about the car catching fire, you MAY want to install a "Battery Disconnect Switch" on the battery's Positive (+) cable.
It's cheap insurance, but it's a pain in the posterior to turn the switch off every time you park the car over-nite.
If you seldom use the Cruise Control, you may just remove the FUSE to prevent the power going to the Cruise,
and drive without it.
Good Luck !!
