Just bought a 01 grand marquis. I really like the car. Just 2 minor things I would like to get fixed.

Deck lid release does not work
Only 1 of my 2 remotes work. Yes I did replace the battery in it.

What are some of the first thing I should start looking for to remedy these problems?

The deck lid release may only work if the Ignition key is in the ACC or ON positions. My 88 is that way, but my wife's 93 is hot all the time (pops any time the button is pressed) and they may have reverted to the old way as a security measure. As for the remote, if the contacts on the buttons are worn out it won't work, but the car may also need to be reprogrammed to accept that remote after the battery change (dunno why, but it's possible). I don't know how to do that though.

 

When I push the deck release button on left door panel I can here a clicking sound behind panel, but deck does not open. I replaced the deck latch first because the guy I bought the car from gave me one thinking that might be the problem, but it was not. It has to be the switch, right ? All fuses and circuit breakers seem to be good. 2001 grand marquis. thanks, dhall

 

Just a normaly open switch. Pull the switch out,unplug the connector & put a jumpr wire across the two terminals & see if that pops it. I've changed a lot of those. They're cheap. Usually the switches make no noise so a clicking sound I would say isn't good.
