I have a 1986 Grand Marquis with "Speed Density" Fuel Injection system. I want to upgrade it to an "Air Mass" Fuel Injection system. I want to do this for future modifications you cannot do with Speed Density. I have heard of folks swapping with a 90-96 Mustang systems, but I see that the wiring harnesses are totally different. The Engine Control Module (ECM) in a mustang is located inside the passenger’s kick panel and my ECM is located under the wiper motor in the engine compartment.

There is a 1991 Grand Marquis in a local junkyard that has the Air Mass system and I am thinking of using that due to the similar body style and wiring harness. The only draw back I see is it still runs the 14 lbs fuel injectors and not the 19 lbs like the mustangs do.

My questions are for those that have already attempted a conversion:

Did you go with a newer Grand Marquis or use a mustang instead?
Was it a smooth conversion?
Was it worth it?
Would you do it again?
What kind of problems did you have?
Did performance/gas mileage improve?

Any other comments/advice in converting to Air Mass would be appreciated.

Tom
