Hi! I was wondering if anyone has a trick to remove the wheel locks from my 93? I got the car as a gift from my in-laws and at some point during its service history the lock wasnt returned. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Which ones?

The ones for the optional alloy wheels or the hub caps (yes, they have a "lock", too!).

No prob. Shows thatI paid attention.

I guess I don't have to mention that you can order the special bolt from the dealer.

Let me check this evening in my manual what kind lugs the '93 used.

There is a tool which you can buyat most of the auto parts stores around, it is used for worn out bolts, comes in different sizes, I used it on a MGM which had the newer style alloys on it, and it worked. Had to wiggle around a bit, but the lugs came loose.

Will let you know this evening.

thanks i appreciate it! BTW the dealer closest to me says they no longer have lock for it and that it would have to be cut off. If this helps the lock themselves are completely round w/ smooth surface no way of hammering a socket on it.

Doesn't surprise me. I tried to get rocker panels one time, not a chance. Oh well.

However, when it comes to something like codes, key tags or wheel locks, you can always contact Ford directly (they have a customer care center in Dearborn, MI), they will get you one.

Yeah, thanks for the info. I know they made some where there is a little notch/cutout in the nut, but it's further down, so no one can use a set of pliers to take them off.

I'll check, but you can also contact Ford by phone (800 number) and see how much the right coded nut would be. After all, at the end you want to remount your wheels, and most likely have a lock on them.

Greetings!

Okay, according to my manual, the alloy wheels on all 92-94 models use a round bolt with 4 notches on them. So the tool should work, unless yours are worn out, cause someone already tried some other tool on it.

Page 184 of the manual states that, if you have lost your key lug, to "see your nearest Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer who has access to a master set of keys". So what your dealer told might not be entirely true.

I don't have the tool I mentioned before anymore. Go to or call one of the autoparts stores in your area and ask them about it.

Greetings.

Interesting, a pic of the locks. Don't they have a clue what they put on their cars? Of course not.

Well, good luck, I hope you get it for a reasonable price.
