My 1996 Sable has intermittent problems with ajar light. When it does act up my horn sounds twice when I lock the car with the key fob. There should of been a recall because it could be dangerous.

Spray WD 40 in the lock opening in the actual door.

spray it in the actual latch on inside of door shell where it catches thestriker on the pillar.Spraying it into the lock cylinder only affects the lock cylinder, where the problem does not lie. The problem lies with the latch mechanism not reading the actual locking of latch around striker. Its also been advantageous to first spray a good NON-CHLORINATED brake cleaner into the latch assy. first, then blow out with air compressor. Then apply lubricant. DO NOT use carb cleaner and/or throttle body cleaner ,as these will effect other parts in the door.A non-chlorinated brake cleaner works best with no adverse effects.

thanks for the clarification. now that i know what to do , can i use wd-40 , then relube with white lithium grease? i have no access to an air compresser, at least not a powerful one. i'm pretty sure all the doors cause the problem, but once or twice i could of swore popping the trunk did it too. i'd appreciate any more input. thanks again lennyand happy thanksgiving.
