Default Air ride on Ultimate Marquis

I've owned a '92 and '99 Marquis', each with the digital dash which I dearly love. I understand that the latest Marquis with the digital dash option available is the '04 Ultimate edition. Do all Ultimates come equipped with the notorious air ride suspension?

2nd question: On a recent trip through Pennsylvania at 75-80mph, my '99 Marquis with 130M on the odometer went 543 miles on a single tank of regular - close to 30 mpg. The newer cars have lower EPA ratings. Does that simply reflect the changed rating system or are the current engines less fuel efficient?

actually, the current engines are a little less efficient and it has more to do with the exhaust restrictions than anything else. put dual exhaust and a fresh air intake on it and it'll be just as good.

I just bought a slightly used 2009 Grand Marquis 'Ultimate Edition' back in Oct of last year.

I was pleasantly surprised to see it did NOT have rear air suspension. From what I have been told, the 'Ultimate Edition' is a fleet version Grand Marquis that is more Crown Vic like. This car was a Ford Motor employee lease vehicle with 11,744 miles.

I am also pleasantly surprised with the car's MPG. The last five fill ups have averaged 18.92 MPG in town driving. When my wife drives the car she gets about 18.5, and when I drive the car I get about 19.4 MPG.

One brief combined city/highway trip miles yielded 22.46 MPG.

According to the FORD OASIS report, this car has the 2.78 axle, so I assume great MPG is obtainable.

My 1991 Crown Vic could never break the 16MPG point in city driving even when it was low mileage on the odometer.

In comparison, my 2001 Impala LS with 3.8V6 averaged 23MPG over the last 80K miles of in town driving, so I am satisfied with the Grand Marquis MPG.

As for digital dash, my 2009 has the best of both world's; two large analog guages for MPH and TACH, and a small digital center that can be programmed for MPH, or whatever messages you want to see.

Take care, Bill

yeah... the 92-95 body vics and GMs were the best mileage runners of the bunch. with good gas and no headwind, keeping it between 60 and 65mph on a long trip could get you between 27 and 30mpg. The 93 vic my wife drives averages around 22mpg combined with about 60/40 city/highway and we generally get 26 mpg out of it with the A/C blasting in the summer on trips (in Texas btw).
