Looking to install a TransGo shift kit. I'm getting a rebuilt transmission installed on the '87 MGM and looking at a TransGo shift kit. I've so far seen that this is a "Do it yourself" kit, but is this something better left to a professional. (probably a stupid question but.... ) In order to make the necessary changes where is the access point? Does the tranny need to be dropped?

shift kits are nothing more than a different valve body in the transmission. in order to have access to the valve body, you take the transmission pan off. if your transmission needs rebuilt, let them install it while the transmission is getting rebuilt.

Is it possible to swap for a C4 trans or is this not worth the change. I have a guy accepting 500 for fully rebuilt trans and install. (Deal????)

would that cause too much engine wear on a long trip?

you would lose mileage. think of only driving your car in Drive. i did some research on the trans-go kit... dont do it. many other panther drivers have issues with it.

Thanks for the advice. A majority of the problems i found with that trans were due to installer errors (being a do it yourself) So outside of the loss in milage for inerstate travel there isn't much of a diff. in the driving?
