Brake Lights come on by themselves
#1
We have a 92 grand marquis LS. Recently we discovered that the
brake lights come on at nightby themselves after thecar is turned
off and parked for the night. Occassionally the car won't start, so we
jump it. Now we discovered the brake light situation. What's going
on?Is this why the car goes dead?

That they come on by themselves at night, it looks like from his unstructured posting.
Too bad, without proper introduction/description, hard to help.
92Mxxx, I bet you it's the known issue with the auto lights, wanna bet?
Greetings!

I think it's that the lights are coming on, not the brake lights.
BTW: I have seen different setups, do your brake lights come on when stepping on the brakes, with the ignition off?
Mine do, so do many other ones I have seen, but the one I just met a few days ago, nope. I checked it carefully. Once the ignition is off, even if key is in accessory position, no brake lights.
But his is one built April or May 1993.
Greetings!

It is only the brake lights that come on after the car is sitting and turned off. We found out it was a switch that needs to be replaced. The brake lights do come on when the car is turned off and you put your foot on the brake pedal.
