Default "Bucking", "Shuddering", Weirdness

Hi, after a long break from this place I have returned with a bit of a cooler head than before. ._.

I own a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis LS, and I have discovered a worrisome problem with it.

On the highway the other day, at about 110-115 KPH, the car started lurching back and forth and losing power. It seemed that the AOD was failing, trying to engage and disengage. I was unable to pinpoint the problem.

Tonight, I went to start the car and the engine died several times before it would stay running. I felt something under the gas pedal "snap", or "clunk", or some such noise/feeling. I drove the car down the road to the store, and at about 60KPH I could feel it doing something similar, only not so bad. It stalled at a red light after it turned green again, trying to turn left.

I fear that my transmission is failing or that something else awful has gone wrong with my car. Can anyone help me out with figuring this out so I don't get taken to the cleaners at the mechanic?

Thanks.

How is the tube up stuff, could just be running terrible. How does the trans fluid look? Should be a rosy red color
