Do I have to remove the headlight assembly in order to replace the parking light? It is A 1996 MGM. Rich W

Bulb Replacement
 

Hello, Rich, and welcome to the Mercury Forums --
Your '96 Marquis has three (3) lights on each side of your front end:
!. - Headlight.
2. - Parking Light.
3. - Marker/Cornering Light.
In the enclosed photo, you will see that the Parking Light is directly BELOW the Headlight.
It is not necessary to remove any other lights in order to replace the Parking Light Bulb.
The bulb is changed by removing the 2 Phillips-head screws that hold the lens in place.
I recommend switching from the standard bulbs to the LED type, as the LEDs make a whiter lite that is visible from a greater distance.
When on trips, I run with Parking Lights "ON" -- the LEDs in the Parking Lights make for EXCELLENT running lights, and are a great safety feature.
Changing the bulbs in the Marker/Cornering lights is more difficult. You may have to remove the plastic panel that has the emissions stickers stuck on to it.
In any case, you should NOT have to remove a headlight to gain access to the Parking Light Bulbs.

I can recommend you replace your old parking light and install LED. When it comes to replacing old incandescent bulbs with LEDs, you have to remove the headlight assembly. best headlight bulbs - here you can read more about it and chose the right one for your A 1996 MGM.

The 95 MERC has had ALL headlight, tail light, and parking light bulbs replaced with LEDs.
The parking and tail light bulbs need to have resistors installed at each light housing to avoid hyper-flashing.
