I have a 97 Grand Marquis 4.6L. The a/c compressor will not kick in unless I bypass the relay. I triedanother relay and it did not fix the problem either.It works fine when bypassed. This car has the ATC digital controls. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the other relay is in working order? Are you bypassing it at the relay connection or somewhere on the harness? If you are bypassing it you have to be careful because some relays convert the volts to a lower power to keep it from burning up the connector and compressor. I need a little more info on what you are using and where you are bypassing it.

 

I have traced the problem back to the control head. I went to pull a part and replaced the old head and now is working fine.

Sweet! and great job.how much ws the control head? and exactly where was it located so everyone else can know if they run into the same problem.

 

I paid $15.00 at a junk yard called pull-a-part. The dealer wanted $548.00. The heater and a/c digital control (atc) is the part I replaced.
