Well, mine had a screw. If I remember right, the manual did not refer to a screw. Mine must be different. Maybe yours doesn''t. Removal is them just by pulling down on the console.

This might seem silly, but it''s a 2006 model. Has the warranty expired? If not, take it to the dealer and let them fix it. If it is under warranty, I would not recomend taking anything apart.

Sounds a bit iffy... That loosely translated says "Just rip it apart!"

so whats the verdict? is it going to get fixxed or not?

You can only say I can''t so many times, just bring it in to get it fixxed the correct way. The car is like new and the last thing you want to do is tear it apart. you will be left with looking at broken and loose fitted parts everytime you drive the car.

Well, the console is snap fitted to the roof. It has four clips that go into the roof panel. Yes, just pull it down and unplug the cables. Apparently some have a screw (windshield side) and some don''t. Mine did. This is from the ''06 service manual.Edited by: Duffy

olds 97, see.. he did not say rip it apart.

the thing has snap fitted plugs like all interior panels have.

I agree with duffy, these do have the snap plugs now that i think about it. give it a tug, with caution. get the proper tool to remove these snap plugs that always haunt us when we remove interior stuff and the thing should come right out.

Well, I pulled the pin finally.

I pulled the plug on both my 98 MGM and my 06 MGM and ohmed/volted out the wires to see if they were the same. They were. Then I switched the mirrors and they were interchangeable. I had to recalibrate the one I took from the 98 (with the compass in the mirror) after installing it and it works just fine. Now I can just spend $60 on another on ebay for my wifes car... although she never goes further than 5 miles from home, so a compass is pointless. But the mirror still autodims in her car as it should.

I have found that the built in compass in the 06 is only correct at the time the car is started. Then it stays at that direction until I shut the car off. At least tapping the "mode" button shuts it off entirely so I can ignore it now.
