In-dash GPS systems (after market)

Got a confused new member of this list.....

I have been toying with the idea of installing a GPS navigation system (in dash) in my 2000 Grand Marquis. I have the double size AM/FM/Casette head unit in the car. What I want is the in dash unit (not the single height units that have a slide out screen). I have looked at the Crutchfield site and none of the double height units are listed as fitting the opening in the Grand Marquis. Does anyone know why this is? I have the same problem with my 99 Mountaineer, double size opening, but descriptions say the units don't fit.

The problem is the available space in the dash. Your factory radio is not very deep at the top and much deeper at the bottom. An aftermarket double DIN radio will not be able to fit as it is too deep at the top.
