Idling/Running Problem

Idling/Running Problem
88 GM
On the road, when I give her gas she wants to stall for a bit, then she gets the juice flowing and goes.
also,
When I'm in park and idling, she wants to stall and goes into a rythm where the idle goes way down and back up and back down again. Occasionally she does die. When I put her in reverse, she might die or she might not.
Thanks for input.
I'm going to start with plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I also need a valve cover gasket.
Any input?

Tuneup is a very good place to start!!! YOu may want to change the fuel filter while you are at it...
THe other thing to try as far as the idling is to clean the throttle body and idle air control valve.. Simply remove the big rubber hose from the throttle body (gonna have ot off to do plugs anyhow) and spray the heck out of it with carb cleaner.. THe idle air motor bolts on to the throttle body.. Remove the 2 bolts and plug that hold it on and clean it out much the same way as the throttle body.. You may need a new gasket for it upon reinstallation....
Good luck!

since you have all that stuff being replaced... get a new rubber that holds PCV ... install new PCV and under that is a PCV screen thaty rarely ever gets changed that contributes to making oil leaks.

AS much as it sucks, that's usually how it goes.. Be glad you can at least get it transferred...
