Just took over my mothers 2000 GrandM LS. Slightly less than 30K on the clock and in like new condition. After charging up the battery I noticed that the power door locks were locking/unlocking at random times along with the horn chirping and the parking lights flashing. I took the CB out that controls the locks and power seat and that stopped it. I would like to be able to unplug the keyless entry module, so that I could still operate the power locks from the buttons inside the car, and use the power seat adjustment. Can anyone please tell me where the keyless entry module is located on this car?

unfortunately I think that's part of the alarm system that's tied into the engine control computer and fuel shut off switch. It's not going to be as easy as just removing a part and everything else still works. It sounds like there may be a weak cell in the battery though. You might just need to replace the battery (or if you have a battery charger that will do it... recondition the battery - this usually takes a good while though... like days or a couple of weeks and involved high voltage pulses to break up the crystal formations on the plates in the battery). A weak battery can cause all kinds of trouble.

 

Thanks for the reply. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. In the meantime I was able to snag a 3 volume set of manuals for the 2000 on eBay (2 Workshop manuals and an EVTM for 36 Bucks, shipping included). I'm gonna wait till they get here and then decide what to do.

good luck. Do get the battery checked out though. I know Autozone and Walmart Tire Lube Express do free battery tests.

 

Had the battery checked, and it's ok.

Got my manuals in the meantime. There is a module that controls all of that and more. It's called the DDM (Driver's Door Module). It posts its own DTCs, but it takes a special kind of code reader. Luckily my mechanic for many years has one from SnapOn that will do the trick. I'll post the results as soon as I know what we are looking at.

Problem solved.......

Nothing was wrong with the car at all. It was one of the remotes that was bad. After doing all the troubleshooting from the repair manual and not getting anywhere I asked a mechanic that I have known for over 20 years. The first thing he told me was to remove the battery from both of my remotes and then check if the problem was still there. No problems after that. When I placed the battery back in the first remote the door locks started clicking again. Found the culprit.........
