Whats up...I was just wondering what the most common mods are for the marquis. I am not looking to go crazy, but I also want to clown on Impalas when the pull up next to me. I was hoping to get thoughts on type of exhaust and maybe some little tips for a few extra hp''s or mpg''s.

Thanks ahead of time

Howdy. Welcome to the forum.

Cold air intakes are easy to build, and they are also plentiful on e-bay for around $70-80, which is close to what you''ll spend building your own.

There are no bolt exhaust systems for the MGM, but they have dual converter pipes all the way to the muffler, so any exhaust shop can build you a set of duals for pretty cheap...depending on what muffler you select. You also have the option of adding the factory dual exhaust and adding good mufflers to that.

Superchips makes a tuner for the OBDII 4.6''s that add about 40HP, and allow you to adjust the speed limiter, tire size etc...but are a bit pricey at close to $400.

Also....most of the Mustang tricks (short tube headers, Big MAF meters and throttle bodies, injectors, fuel pumps, underdrive pullies, superchargers, etc, etc. etc.) are easily adapted to the Panther platform 4.6

The only questions are haw fast do you want to go, and what are you willing to spend to get there?

Some of the cold air kits on ebay are not really cold air kits. They are more like crome hot air kits. The real kits sell for 200.00. the cheap ebay ones are basically cheap. They pull hot air from the underhood temperatures. they do not go into the fender to prtect the filter fro the hot air. In my opinion they are a waste of money for the cheap or the expensive one.

If you havea 1998 or earlier car. the best mod is the heads. it will cost you abot 400-1000 for good used and possibly used ported headsif you do it yourself. If you have 1998 and older, then you have good heads and then you can really have then ported an polished. but you gain a true 94 hp for puttin Pi heads that are ported on a 98 car. and yes, the dyno sheets are in two or threemonths ago Hot rod magizine "4.6L build up". you might be able to go online at hot rod magazine .com and get a back issue of the "4.6L build up.

the cheapest and best proven h.p gain is a off road pipe.150 bucks. this is about 12-17 hp.But keep in mind that it will not be legal. a more expensive gain would be a High flow cats. the next expensive is headers. they run from 150-500 depending on used or new.

Nitros is a safe and best bang for the buck when done correctly. for around 700 bucks you can add a safe 100-150 hp in about 6 hours at a touch of a button

Anything else with fuel done then you might have to purchase the chip programmer for 400 bucks because the injectors, larger fuel pumpand everything else would have to be recalibrated.

Go with the Nirtos. Fast easy and cheap. You will not affect the mpg, have someone pro. do it for you. I have had it on many cars and it really is safe when done correctly. People that say it is not safe are ones that do not know anything about it and ones that have never had it on a car before. That are all computer and fail safe now. it is only bad when people get greddy with trying to add too much hp to a stock motor.

In you have a brand new MGM, then No do not put Nitros on it. But is you have a 5,000 MGM or cheaper, then YES but the thing on. most kits do not require and mods to fuel or the computer to be done. And yess.. you will be seeing the Impalas in the rearview mirror AFTER PUTTING ON A SAFE 100 SHOT OF NITROS

thanks for the suggestions.

Mine is a 98...so another question would be: If I were to start purchasing little mods for a mustang since its the same plat form...do they bolt right on or is there an issue with spacing? For example...the pullies, does it matter if it is for a mustang or a MGM? and what years was everything the same..like 98-02?

thanks

look for aftermarket parts for a Marauder and Marauder parts for your car. here is a link to a Marauder doing a crazy burnout with an under the hood look at engine.

Would the Marauder engine parts interchange? I would think with the Marauder using the four cam 4.6 and the MGM the two cam there would be more compatibility issues there than with the Mustang parts? Is this not the case?

Go with used 1999 Pi mustang heads and used mustang cams. Huge horsepower gaind for under 1,00 bucks, around340 hp,and then you can sell your used parts that you just took off. Your current 1998 heads are junk for performance. You can have then redone but it will cost allot.

If you go with injectos and fuel pump from the cobra then you have to redo the computer and in my opin ion it is not worth the money for the horsepower unless you are serious about racing and squeezing as much power as you can on a budget.

Find out your budget and your HP that you want to be at. then we can go from there .
