Default Remote starting issue

My parents just recently bought a 2002 Grand Marquis with all the works it sounds like. It has been very well kept and they haven't had any problems except for the remote starter. Apparently, the car starts itself whenever you open the unlocked driver's door. I also believe that the keys are in close proximity with them such as sitting on the front seat or in the hand. To turn it off, you have to get in the now running car and hit the lock and unlock button.

They are often outside and around the car at times so it can be annoying to them that the car keeps starting itself whenever they need something out of it. Is there a way this can be disabled on the Grand Marquis?

Default question

This has to be after market and it sounds like it is wired in thru the door locks and the triggers. Factory did not offer remote start from dealer those yrs(2002).
