96 mercury grand marquis, ~60k I thought timing chain last much longer than belt. I checked ford service manual for vc/gm, it turns out: 60k ( and 120k): replace timing chain/belt(6268) When do you guys change the timing chain? and how much it costs? Thanks. Edited by: jinroh |
I have never replaced a timing belt. I can't understand why you would unless the timing was off... www.libertylm.com |

Engines using timing belts typically need to have the belt replaced every 60K miles. But, again, that's not a GM. |
ALL 4.6 liter FOMOCO engines employ a timing CHAIN.
Using Mobil 1 XP 5w30 oil and Motorcraft oil filters, my 1995 4.6 engine gives excellent performance, economy, and reliability. Recent Smog Test results at 148,000 miles: Hydrocarbons - Standard is 220 ppm. Passed at 38 ppm. Carbon Monoxide - Standard is 1.5% . Passed at 0.032%. At 62,000 miles, your timing chain is barely broken in ;>) |
