All right fellow enthusiasts I have an experiment out there for just about anyone willing to give it a go.

What transmissions can be substituted for the Ford AOD in the 1979-91 models?

(for example) I have a 91 Ls with the Ford 5.0 302 5 bolt main could the AODE or the later 4R75W be put in? Or what other transmission that could fit?

 

Either the AODE or the 4R70W should bolt right up to the FOMOCO 302.
BUT -- you may have some problems getting it to shift electronicly.
There are no electronics in the early models that function with the Electronic Overdrives of the AODE and 4R70W.
Unless your car is an absolute "cream puff" and you want to keep it forever, FORGET the tranny swap -- it ain't worth the aggravation.
