From the manual, starting with the 92 model year, a heated windshield was available as an option. Supposedly activated by a chrome switch, similar to the antenna and read defroster switch.

I took my dash panel off last week, but didn't find any space in the dash itself between the 2 standard switches. All solid plastic. The cover itself did not appear to have any preps for hosting the windshield de-icing switch.

Anybody has this option and can tell me where the switch goes?

Left one is for the heated rear window (rear defrost), right one is for the power antenna. So in between would look right, don't you think? Edited by: 92Mercury

Well, finding the correct location would be best. The switch would seem fitting in between those two andwould not look out of place. It could go on the left side of the steeringcolumn in the "wood" area too. I found this pic on used cars.com. Maybe looking at more cars for sale, you could find a better picture. Maybe find a 92 brochure somewhere.

Thanks for the input, but wont work. Tried it all. The brochure (which I have) was the first place to look for. I checked various pages (cardomain etc.), but nobody seem to have this option.

I don't think it goes to the left of the column as there is solid steel, which houses the 2 bolts holding the knee bolster.

I guess I take the middle part apart again and double check. Maybe the reinforcement plastic behind has a placeholder which needs to be broken out.

Thanks anyway.

Do you know for surethat it was offered in 92?

92Mercury 09-11-2007 06:19 PM

Yes I do. Remember, I have the brochure.

Don't have the page which displays the options (yes, available even on the GS model) handy, but it sure was.

Thus, just because a brochure says so, we have seen strange things before from Ford. Oh well, we'll see. I'm not in a hurry, my windshield is perfect, so I wont replace it just for that.

Not to mention that I first have to find one with the heat elements, get the wiring done, reails etc. etc. A piece of cardbox on the windshield does wonders compared to that! LOL

Just for thought. What other years offered the heated windshield thathave a like dash as the 92? Maybe search for those models for a dash picture.

And very much appreciated. Very often we overlook the simple things.

Well, that's the catch. This style dashboard was only used on 1992 thru 1994 models (rectangular speedometer with temp gauge on the bottom left, and fuel gauge on the bottom right.

I even looked into converting it, but the electric wiring in the plug is different, as the later models offered oil pressure and voltage (I think it is voltage, right).

The earlier ones had the 3 cubes next to each other. So I own somehow an exotic.

And not to mention: I even asked the dealer, and you can probably imagine what kind of answer I got from them: "That was never available". Then I showed them the brochure, and you get everything from excuses to big eyes. LOL

It's just a playground for me, I ran across the button (which was cheaper than the windshield, wiring, relays etc. etc.). Thought I ask. You never know, I might run across someone on here which has one. And then there is 2 of us, so watch out! LOL

Greetings!

Ha, I found an old drawing from the earlier dashboards, which must have been part of a manual at some point in time, it has a description of switches and function of elements on it.

And the windshield deicer button goes: right in the middle between antenna and heated rear window.

Greetings!
