I looked around a year ago hoping for a recall but found none. As far as I can tell the rest of the vehicle is just fine so what else would a throttle position sensor affect?

no, the speed sensor is usually connected to the transmission to the speedo gear. Then if the car has a cable driven speedo, the cable will plug into the speed sensor. this type of speed sensor is usually a hall affect sensor. it counts rotations of the speedo gear in the transmission without any direct contact. sometimes they do wear out.

the throttle position sensor on the other hand is usually a potentiometer or variable resistor and just changes voltage to the ECM to tell it what position it''s in.

Just in order to be politically correct: Pressing the +button does not turn on the cruise control, you have to press the "on" button first, then set the desired speed by pressing the + button.

If you guys don''t have a "On/Off" button, let me know, that would be a new one.

Greetings!

I do have the on/off button but i can''t even get the dash light to come on...
would that still have something to do with a sensor? I am really trying to
figure this out on my own so i don''t have to take it to a dealer

if the cruise control will actually work and hold the car at speed but the light doesn''t come on, it''s a burnt out bulb in the dash. if the cruise doesn''t hold the car at speed, you have a control module or speed sensor issue. if the speedometer works and is NOT cable driven, it''s not the speed sensor. I think there''s only one speed sensor for everything that requires that. Do double check this as it may be different on your vehicle. If the speedometer is cable driven and works, it''s probably the speed sensor. If the speedo doesn''t work, it''s probably the speedo gear in the transmission that needs to be replaced.

Well i got fed up with trying to figure it out... so the truck is at the dealer,
they told me there is an issue with the pcm, then when i called to check on it
they told me they would need the truck over night because they were trying
to trace a wiring problem. I will keep you guys posted.

OK i got my truck back... There was a wiring short under the dash.
Obviously they won''t tell what wire, or where it was. I''m sorry i can''t tell you
more. I can tell you the bill was just under 3 hundred dollars and they kept
my truck for a day and a half. I hope this helps somebody with the same
problem.
