I have been having troubles with my thermostat/housing. It has been leaking coolant underneath the housing, we have replaced the thermostat and the gaskets a number of times and cannot seem to get it to stop leaking. Has anyone else had troubles like this or can help me.
Thanks

I just replaced a thermostat on my 97, and having had your problem in the past, I (very patiently) scraped both surfaces until they were completely free of old gasket, etc, then cleaned both surfaces with rubbing alcohol until the white cloth was free of grease and dirt. I then used a "blue" sealant with a Fel-pro gasket, and only lightly tightened the bolts, left overnight, then torqued to spec. no leaks at all! < src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-45";

the best silicone sealer i have used is permatex Ultra Black. it can be used just about for anything you need to seal up. it cant be just permatex black from wal-mart... the good stuff is the Ultra Black

I agree with Jed. Make sure the old gasket is completely removed, (housing and intake) Fel-pro is always the way to go, and don't over tighten. Automotive sealants are color coded for differrent applications. Blue is the right color to use, but not alot. Maybe just enough to hold the gasket in place while replacing. Don't forget curing time like Jed said. Let us know. P.S. make sure the thermostat is seated properly.Edited by: conan312
