Whinning noise

I have a 2003 Mountaineer.. Its making awhinning noise on the driver side. I''ve check the transmission fluid and brakes (they ok ) When driving Its heard but not as loud.. But when I slow down.. the whinning noise Increases loudly.. Any idea what the problem maybe.. Help!!

the only things I can think of that would do that is some weird vacuum leak (you can test this by goossing the throttle while parked. if the sound varies, it might be a vacuum leak.) or it might be the torque converter. as the torque converter reaches lockup, the two halves of it will not spin past each other as much.

it might also be an exhaust leak. There may also be other things that would cause this that I don''t know about.
