I am back again with another question or two.... first the check engine light. The computer at autozone says burning lean bank1 , bank2 what does that mean? Second question. My radio in the car has all the cd buttons on it and this big silver thing in the trunk I am gonna try to put the pics on. How do you hook up the cd player in the trunk and how many prongs should the cd changer have on it and do I need an additional wire harness? The only plugs I found in the trunk are the ones in the pics what are they for? I have looked through the owners manual but had no luck. Nothing in there about cd changer Thanks for any help

"Lean" means that the engine is getting more air than fuel.

"bank1" and "bank2" refers, depending on the manufacturer, to eitherthe cylinder banks (V6 or V8 engine) or ignition banks (which are usually the same number wise).

Main question is: The light came on, a readout was done, what about if the system was reset? Does the light come on again? The "check engine" light comes on when ever something is out of normal, and very often remains on. But if the cause for the light to come on in the first place is not present anymore, it should remain off after a reset.

I assume your car did not come with the cd player installed, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't have to hook it up. Well, if you get the cd changer afterward, there are several different versions Ford/Lincoln/Mercury is offering, so there could be the possibility that it wont work with your radio.

Here are the different models available:

The owner manual usually does not contain information about he audio system, there is a different manual. Check out my post in the General part of this forum, the link is there.

Here is a description of the wiring for your car:

Then it's time to go to the dealer and have them check what causes it.

Fuel is also essential for internal cooling. So if your car is running to lean, not enough fuel, it can cause severe internal damage. It might just be a sensor. there are many which regulate the air/fuel mixture, looks like one of them is stuck or bad.

It has an appt. at the garage on tues. I also noticed that when the check engine light is on it uses alot more fuel. I am only getting 19-20 mpg when light is on. But then again I have driving a 94 toyota corrolla for the past four years andthat got like 34 mpg so maybe that is normal for the sable.Also I looked for the above mentioned post and could not find it. Thanks again

Well, you can see all kinds of sympthoms if an engine is not running right. And it is very often hard to track down what the cause it. See what the shop says for the cause, and go from there.

Here's the EPA rating for the sedan:

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%">

<TD class=stripe-three colSpan=2>Fuel </TD></TR>
<TR>
<TD class=stripe-five width="50%">Fuel Tank Capacity: 16 gal. </TD>
<TD class=stripe-five> </TD></TR>
<TR>
<TD class=stripe-three colSpan=2>EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway) </TD></TR>
<TR>
<TD class=stripe-five width="50%">Automatic: : 19 mpg / 28 mpg </TD>
<TD class=stripe-five> </TD></TR>
<TR>
<TD class=stripe-three colSpan=2>Range in Miles: (City/Highway) </TD></TR>
<TR>
<TD class=stripe-five width="50%">Automatic: 304 mi. / 448 mi. </TD></TR></T></TABLE>

Here is the link to my post, it is right where I told you it would be. Might want to spend a little more time reading, it says it right in the header:
