Default Greetings

I am new to this forum and to the Mercury Grand Marquis. I love Buick Roadmasters. We own two, a 1995 that my teenagers drive and a mint 1996 that we all drive. Oh how I love rwd heavy American cars. Sadly, the '95 has a transmission problem and has to go.

Luckily I found an immaculate 2004 Grand Marquis that shares similarities with the RM....especially the ability to find a good well cared for single owner car loved previously by a doting senior citizen. The kids will take over my wife's car and this gem will be hers. It has only 42,000 miles and new tires. It could almost pass as new. My wife likes the good visibility, excellent drivability, and the luxurius leather seats. It is so nice to be able to provide her with such luxury for under $10,000. My research reveals that these cars have great longevity which hopefully lead to years of trouble free service.

I guess that now I have a new forum to monitor and if you folks are as nice and helpful as the guys on the roadmaster forum this will be a fun experience for sure.

I would appreciate any information about how to take care of this beast, especially tips on how to get the most lifespan out of it.

Thanks,

Russ

the only thing that needs close attention paid to it is the intake manifold. Any time you're under the hood, check for coolant leaks from the plastic manifold. If/when it does crack and start leaking, replace it with any aftermarket manifold that has at least the coolant crossover pipe as all aluminum and then you should not have any more issues with the engine (considering regular maintenance) for a good long time.

you have any pictures? i know some people like personalizing vehicles some... one modification that makes these cars standout is having some 5 spoke mustang type wheels. at any rate, welcome to the site... i belong to a couple other sites dedicated to these Panther chassis cars. (Panther Chassis = Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, TownCar)

Welcome!

Yes, about the manifold, make sure you check with your dealer or register on FordOwners.com. There is a recall, and they do it for free.

Besides that, just change the oil (standard oil) and you should be good.

Also, do the recall about windshield, speed control switch and seat belts.

Greetings!

Welcome to the forum! PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE is the key to longevity of your, or any car for that matter. You already received the best advice from the previous posts. Keeping up on checking and changing the oil on time is mucho importante! If you are a do it yourselfer, then use the maintenance schedule in the back of your owner's manual. You'll have many years of loyalty from your Marquis.
