My name is Johnny and I'm the new kid in town yeah right I'm 64. Any way I bought this cool looking 53 Mercury Monterey for my daughter Lisa.
The original Flathead had too many cracks so I found a new bock that I thought was good but it also had problems. So I've have decided to abandon the flathead theme and go with a 289 engine
I know there are aftermarket kits for 49-51 Mercs and also 54-56 Mercs but the 1952 -1953 are kinda in limbo. Or at least I have not been able to locate the mounting kit for it. I do have built 289 that's been sitting in my garage that I thought I was going to for my 65 fastback and I do have the reverse oil pan that I would need to clear the front suspension on the 53 Merc but the 53 has the large front cross member and the mounts would need to placed next to the crossmember.
So, If anyone out there has any suggestions on installing a small block Ford into the 1953 Mercury I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks Johnny
