Never even thought about a Mercury before, but bizarre sequence of events recently resulted in me buying a 2000 Sable LS wagon with 110K on it - and I love it. Day after getting it went on a little 10-day road trip up around the Finger Lakes region of NY, just over 1,000 miles, and it was wonderful. the 24v DOHC engine is powerful and smooth, car is versatile and practical, visibility is great, and I really like the kind of funky-looking design of the rear section.
It is white, and my daughter instantly said it looks like a spaceship and we should name it ET
Looks 10 years younger than it is, should roll on for a good few years yet, and I am hugely impressed. Awesome sound system, and makes my daily drive on the horrible Garden State Parkway a lot more bearable.
