Trying to replace drum and shoes.

On the right side. I got the drum off and replace shoes and springs, Parts came from Autozone. Question.. the large spring that goes across the bottom between the shoes has no tension on it. Did not notice this before i removed the old one, is this normal?

On the left side, I cannot get the drum off. Tried to remove the rubber plug on the backing plate but cannot see into or feel the adjustment wheel with screwdriver. Any suggestions on how to the drum off?
Not worried about re-useing it, already have a new one. Car has 185k and I did notice that the pin that holds the holding spring is loose.

Thanks for any advise, going on vacation tomorrow and will check when I get back.
