After driving and turning off the car and then trying to restart it after it has been sitting awhile (up to 2 hrs)it does not start. We drove it to dinner, ate (approximately one hour), and come out and nothing. Had to have it towed home. Dash lights come on, radio and headlights work. I turn the ignition key to start and there is nothing. No clicking sound to indicate a bad starter or solenoid. If I let the car sit over night and try the next morning it will start with no problems. I replaced the battery thinking it was possible low on starting power. My wife is afraid to drive anywhere as she'll get stuck. Car dealer said that the car has to be not working inorder to run a electric diagnostic but if it sits awhile it will start so they won't check it. I plan to have the starter replaced but if that isn't it, Where next? I just don't to keep putting money out with no results. HELP. Volunteer FF.

Better to have the battery tested local auto store n/c. If old no loss. Starter could be removed and tested local auto store or depending on mileage, replace. Suburban went through 3 starters two years same symptoms. Heat related failures.

Something in the ignition system is overheating. Have you checked the stater relay? When the car is in no start mode and if you are able, see if any power is making it to the starter, if not try and excite the solenoid. Let me know.

that happened on my other car a few years ago,it turned out to be the ignition switch which wasn't hard to replace, the other thing it may be is the neutral safety switch.

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions. It ended up being the starter. It was over heating and after 6 hours or longer it would start.

I hope you heeded my advise, fixed it yourself, and saved a bundle. Good luck.
