93 Mercury Sable overheating or fuel pump
Hello I have a 93 Mercury Sable and i am having some problems with it. Here is the story. I took my car to a city about 200 km away on a hot day about 34 degree celcuis and it was running fine, but when i got into the city it sputtered and sputtered and then quit. It started again went 50 meters and sputter, sputter quit. Finnally i got it to the side of the road and left it for about 40 minutes. Started it and it drove all the way to my friends place and all the way home no problems. I was thinking it maybe overheated but the heat gauge never went that high, it did go up though. I took it to a garage and they said they checked the thermostat and fan and everything seemed to be working, but they didn't put it on the computer because they did have the right adaptor or something. I drove it too work for a couple of weeks and it worked fine. THen i took the car on a long trip about 2500km it worked fine for the first 2300km but the last day was hot 32 degree celcius and i was just driving down the highway and sputter sputter ,for about 1 km then quit. I waited 5 minutes. Got it to go 2km. Waited 10 minutes and go it to go around 5km. Then waited 30 minutes and it drove about 120km to another city and then spuitter sputter quit. Waited 30 mintues and drove it the 80km home. I didn't have the air conditioning on at all. I have to turn the defrost on with heat to cool the car down when i am driving around a city which i shouldn't have to. I have talked to some people and they say it is my fuel pump. But i am not sure. Is there a sensor that will turn the car off if it reaches a certain temperature? Maybe thats what wrong.
Also car has 208000 km on it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
i have this problem also, i think its 1 of 2 things, a bad temperature
sensor or a bad connection with a sensor, or an overheat limiter.
overheat limiter would manually shut down the engine when a certain
temperature was attained to save the motor from blowing, but the heat
in the engine and the fuel still going in keep the engine going at a
sputter at about 500 rpm when it should be idling at 1000-1250 rpm
sensor or a bad connection with a sensor, or an overheat limiter.
