My girlfriend owns a 1998 Mercury Sable Ls and is having problems with it overheating. The fans work, the thermostat was recently changed, and today I changed the radiator reservoir tank because it had a crack and was leaking. I took it on a test drive and after driving around for a bit and then letting it idle for about 5 minutes, once again, it slowly started to overheat. While I was changing the reservoir tank, I noticed that the coolant was dirty and this has led me to believe that the problem is possibly a clog in a line or the radiator itself. Can anyone offer any advice on flushing the coolant system out? I'm not too familiar with her car and am not too sure of where to begin, so please be as detailed as possible. I would disconnect the lower radiator hose and let it drainthenget a water hose and put it on the reservoir tank and let the water run with the engine running for 5 minutes or until the water comes out clear. the water will go from the coolanttank to the cylinder head, heater corethen to the radiator and back out. after the water comes out clean, let it drain and add 100% antifreeze because there's water in the cooling system from the flush.

you could also get a new radiator if you think is clogged up. if the radiator is okay, then you mighthave a warpped head.
(a tiny verysmall leak)

That's what I would do; Hope that helped
