Found coolant leaking from the 2001 Sable. After much looking and troubleshooting, I found the hose connector cracked and is now completely broke at the upper radiator/bypass hose connection. According to the service dvd I have, it looks to be a time consuming change. It gives a basic p/n as 8548. Has anyone changed one? Is it a pain to do? Do I need to completely drain the antifreeze?

One other question, The manual says to use Motorcraft antifreeze VC-$-A. Is that the same as the green Prestone stuff. I have a couple bottles of their 50/50 mix.

As long as I need to change this I might as well change the low coolant sensor also. that light has been on for about a year now.

Thanks,

According to my book the 01 Sable takes Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant E2FZ-19549-AA, which will mix with the green prestone stuff you have just fine.

Not sure about that bypass hose. Looks like a PITA in my service manual too.

Bypass hose assembly was pretty easy fix. Used the coolant I had in the garage and everything is just fine.
