My parents just got a 2005 sable LS our 99 had a cabin air filter and a few plastic screws and 2 clips to hold the cowl over the splash shield. On this car I didn't notice the screws, but assume the clips are underneath. I saw the 2 metal clips on the end but figured didn't want to do any damage when pulling off the cover. When looking online I saw some sites 1996-2004, 05, 06. Does this car have one and if so is it basically the same as on my 99 except the clips are unseen?

Thanks
-----Ryan

Well I got the cover off and clips back on and filter changed. However the rubber seal meeting the window on the end of the plastic doesn't seem a very tight seal. Is this normal and not a problem and just due to the plastic of the cowl or not?

There are three clips front edge passenger side. Points in the clips dig into the cowling.Try some silicone spray to ease them off. Rockauto carries replacements. I lost one so take care. When the clips are off, three plastic bayonet/spring pinshold the cowl on. Work your fingers in from the glass side rocking the cowl untilthe pins release. Easy to break. Use silicone spray when replacing.

The tray is hinged to allow the filter to be removed. It's stiff, so work thetray up and down by hand on left side of filter.

make absolutly sure that you get the cowl panel to seal against the windshield. If you dont, water will drain down through your cabin air filter, and into your blower motor. Then you will have to replace your blower motor and possibly your resister.
