I have a 1997 Mercury Sable and have had problems with the engine electrical. The engine stalls and fails to restart. I have changed the Power Module located by the battery, checked the crankshaft position sensor, however the engine keeps stalling. The mechanic does not have a diagnostic computer to scan the system. Should I have it ckecked with the computer?

sounds like the fuel pump relay going out or could also be the Idle Air Control valve gunked up. i would pull off the air filter tube and open the throttle butterfly and see how much gunk is in there. the idle air control valve is held on by 2 5/16 bolts. lots of times the piston/valve in there gets gunked and doesnt work righ. cleaning the builup helps lots.

 

Does the engine always start cold, then stall? Check engine light on? Does it stall at idle or while in motion? Does it idle okay? Let me know.
