Dad has a 96 Sable and the transmission feels like its slipping occasionally.Feels like its slipping out of gear and then going back into gear all in 1 second so you get this "bucking" feeling.Also, the car will occasionally "shudder"under acceleration. Car has 98,000 miles with original transmission and fluid is at proper level.


The owners manual says nothing about ever changing the trans fluid and the fluid in this car is the original but I wonder if this might help the problem ?? Do most Sable owners change their auto trans fluid after so many miles ?

 

How do you know it is the original fluid? Smell the transaxle dipstick and see if the fluid smells burnt. Awful tranny probs w/those mid to late 90's electronic o/d's. Is it a full time problem? or only when it gets hot or highway? etc... Let me know.
