I recently purchased a used 1994 Mercury Sable. So far, the radio has never worked right. It randomly changes stations and sometimes the display only says TELE. While it says TELE, the radio does not play and you can not change it. The only way to get it off of TELE is to turn off the car and then on again. Any help? Also my remote control buttons for the radio do not work (the ones on the dash, on the right side of the steering wheel) is there a fuse that I have to replace or something?

tele is the hands free telephone option on the car. It sounds like you have stuck/worn out contacts on the unit.

 

Thanks for the response, Lenny. Is there any way to fix this, or am I stuck with getting a new radio? Or is there a way to get it off of TELE, because when that comes on, it refuses to go away until I turn off, then start the car again.

It is usually less expensive to purchase an aftermarket stereo of your choice. The stock stereo can be repaired,but usually at a higher cost than aftermarket.
